Scott Beeson, Captain, U.S. Coast Guard (Retired), Vice President, SCRA

Scott joined SCRA in October 2010 leading SCRA efforts in the growing maritime security and homeland security markets.  Prior to joining SCRA, Scott served on active duty as a Captain in the United States Coast Guard.

While on active duty, Scott was a driving force behind Project SeaHawk, the Intermodal Transportation and Port Security Pilot Project, in Charleston, SC.  Established in 2003, Project SeaHawk brought together stakeholders from over thirty federal, state and local maritime and intermodal safety and security organizations to share operational intelligence, develop maritime domain awareness (MDA), establish seamless command and control, facilitate the rapid exchange of information and create an active, layered, port and intermodal security fabric for South Carolina and Georgia.  Project Seahawk became the Department of Homeland Security’s first Interagency Operations Center established under the Safe Port Act of 2006.

In April 2010, Scott assisted Coast Guard Commandant, ADM Thad Allen, as his Chief of Staff, organizing and leading the first National Incident Command to orchestrate a “whole of government” response for the Gulf oil spill.  Scott applied the SeaHawk “unity of effort” construct, leading joint & interagency action officers to develop solutions to a wide range of cross-programmatic issues arising from the spill.  The Interagency Solutions Group (ISG) emerged as a fundamentally new method for the federal government to collaborate in addressing the effects of a spill of national significance.

Scott was recalled to active duty from the private sector shortly after 9/11 to address maritime security concerns in Charleston, SC.  Before being recalled, Scott had spent ten years in the technology industry assisting early adopters of emerging technologies gain competitive advantage.  Scott is a 1983 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy,. He has also earned a Masters in Business Administration from Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson School of Business in Atlanta, GA.
