Laurie Thomas, Maritime Security Coordinator, The All Hazards Training Center, The University of Findlay
Laurie Thomas’ work experience in public safety and security spans more than forty years and includes serving in conservation law enforcement as well as with a municipal police department in one of Ohio’s deepwater ports. After retiring from the State of Ohio she joined the security services staff at the University of Findlay’s Center for Terrorism Preparedness, now the All Hazards Training Center, in 2003.
Ms. Thomas is head of the University’s Facility Security Plan Services Unit, and her primary job for the University is conducting facility security plan audits and related services for maritime facilities subject to MTSA, the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. She also presents U.S. Coast Guard-approved and DHS-certified maritime security training to private industry and federal government clients across the U.S. She served on the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC) from 2012 to 2017, and she was vice-Chair of NMSAC from 2015-2016. She is the Facility Security Officer for the Meldrum Ore Dock in Huron, OH.
