DNR Patrol Boat Dedicated To Honor Fallen Conservation Officer

PETOSKEY- A new patrol vessel for the Department of Natural Resources was dedicated and named the Carl VanderWall Saturday afternoon, in honor of a conservation officer who passed away in 2016.

A ceremony to dedicate the boat was held at the Petoskey City Marina, where VanderWall spent much of his time during his career and the event was attended by many members of VanderWall’s family, friends and coworkers.

“DNR law enforcement division has a long standing tradition of naming vessels posthumously after extraordinary conservation officers,” said Lt. Jim Gorno, DNR District Law Supervisor for District 3. “Examples are officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their life in the line of duty, retired officers whose contributions were instrumental in bringing about significant and praise worthy change and in this case, Carl, whose service was highly honorable and exemplary.”  CLICK HERE TO READ FULL ARTICLE
