A new port security vessel for Montauk Harbor was commissioned on Wednesday, July 26, at the Montauk Coast Guard Station. The vessel is named for John L. Behan, a Montauk resident and highly decorated veteran who served as director of the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs as well as as a state assemblyman and an East Hampton Town assessor.

The vessel, which has firefighting capabilities, will assist the Coast Guard in its Home Security responsibilities as well as providing fire protection in the harbor. A federal grant will cover $450,000, or approximately 75 percent of the $600,000 cost of the project, with the town contributing $150,000, or 25 percent.  CLICK HERE TO READ FULL ARTICLE
