La Crosse,  Wisconsin - Officers worked to expand their knowledge and skills by attending an Airboat Operators course hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources last month. Twenty-one (21) officers from Wisconsin and Minnesota attended the course, taught by instructors from the NASBLA Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program.

After completing the five-day course officers were able to master elements such as basic operations, operational hazards, night operations, wet and dry launching, airboat rescue operations and ice operations

The Airboat Operators Course gives maritime law enforcement and emergency responders, with proficient boating skills, a comprehensive framework to be more effective with specialized skills necessary to operate Airboats in the maritime environment. A key element of this course is the preparation of participants to become qualified in the tasks necessary for response to maritime safety and security operations. Successful completion of this course also allows students to be included in the national qualification database maintained by NASBLA and recognized by the US Coast Guardand FEMA.
